"As a patron of the arts and a dedicated supporter of Pacific Symphony, I've found that making contributions through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is both practical and rewarding.
Using a DAF is a simple and straightforward way to make lasting impact. It offered me and my husband so many advantages. We obtained a tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the cash and securities we transferred to the DAF at formation, and we now have the flexibility to advise as to all future donations from our DAF at our convenience. There is no requirement specifying when and how much of the funds retained in our DAF must be donated.
What is even more advantageous is that the funds we retain in our DAF continue to appreciate tax-free and we have been able to designate successor advisors for our DAF in anticipation of our ultimate departure from Planet Earth. Said differently, our philanthropic desires for the funds held in the DAF will continue to be expressed after we are no longer able to do so ourselves".
